Guide on How to Make a Passport Online in Indonesia 2024

Making a passport is easy and can be done yourself

The current digitalization of government services means that many services can now be accessed via the internet. Some steps, including the process of obtaining a passport, can be completed online.
As a result, those of you who want to get a new passport now don’t need to queue for a long time at the Immigration Office without certainty, because the passport queue can be done online.
But please note: even though you can now apply for a passport online, you still have to go to the Immigration Office to submit some documents and have an interview and take a photo of yourself for your passport. This means that currently making a passport is not completely online, but still requires you to be physically present at the Immigration Office.
So how do you make a passport online? Klook will outline the 5 steps you need to take to make a passport online:
5 Easy Steps to Make a Passport Online
  1. Log in to https://antrian.imigration.go.id/ or via the Online Passport Service application
  2. Create a new account using email or log in with an account you already have
  3. Select the immigration office and arrival time
  4. Save or print queue barcodes
  5. Come to the selected Immigration Office for interviews and data recording

Is it true that the validity period of an ordinary passport is now 10 years?

At the end of last September, there was a lot of news that the validity period of ordinary Indonesian passports had changed from 5 years to 10 years. This has been confirmed by the Directorate General of Immigration, but does not apply at this time. The new rules, which are outlined in Government Regulation no. 51 of 2020, will only come into effect when the implementing regulations are implemented.
For more information, you can read the following review from Klook :
Is it still possible to get a new passport during the current Covid-19 pandemic?
Passport making services during the new normal period have actually reopened since June 2020, but currently the Directorate General of Immigration has temporarily closed face-to-face immigration services while PPKM is in effect.
Currently, it has been decided to extend PPKM until August 23 2021. The Directorate General of Immigration will definitely update the policy on opening face-to-face immigration services after the latest PPKM decision is issued.

Documents Required to Make a New Passport

Quoting the official Immigration website, the following documents are needed to make a passport:
  1. E-KTP
  2. Family card
  3. Birth certificate, marriage certificate, or diploma
  4. For foreigners who obtain Indonesian citizenship: Indonesian citizenship letter
  5. For those who have changed their name: Name change determination letter
Make sure your personal data including name, place and date of birth are the same in all documents submitted. If there are data differences, it is very possible that the Immigration Office will reject your application for a passport.
Meanwhile , if you want to extend your passport or replace your passport because your old passport has expired , now the document requirements needed to make a new passport are much easier. You only need these two documents to replace your passport:
  1. E-KTP
  2. Old passport
But it should be noted that this is only for old passports issued in 2009 and after . For old passports issued before 2009, the documents required are like making a new passport.

Steps to Make a Passport Online

1. Enter the Online Passport Service portal or application

The first step you have to do is go to the portal https://antrian.imigration.go.id/ or the Online Passport Service application. This application is available on the Play Store and App Store.

2. Create a new account or log in with an existing account

You need to create a new account using your email and phone number if you don’t have an account, or log in directly to your account if you have already created one. Creating an account is also very easy and can be done in just a few minutes.

3. Select the immigration office and arrival time

Now, after logging into your account, you will find the Immigration Office options available. Choose one of the Immigration Offices that is easiest for you to reach. Yup, the immigration office where you make your passport doesn’t have to be the same as your E-KTP area, really!
So, for example, if your E-KTP is outside Jakarta, you can still make a passport at the Immigration Office in the Jakarta area. Likewise, vice versa.
Now, after selecting the immigration office, you will be asked to select your arrival date and arrival time. This is the date and time when you must come to the Immigration Office to submit the required documents and the interview process. Choose the date and time that best suits your needs, OK?
Important Note: The queue quota for making passports online via the application opens every Friday!
Please note that the quota for making passports each day is very limited, so you may find that many dates or times are full. Keep trying to look for another date or time, or maybe, you can choose another immigration office as an alternative to get a suitable time.

4. Save or print the queue barcode

After you successfully get the time to make your passport at the immigration office that you want, you will get a queue barcode. Save this barcode, for example by taking a screen capture or screenshot , or if necessary, print the barcode. This barcode is what you have to show to the officer when you first arrive, to get in line on the day you come to the immigration office to make your passport.

5. Come to the selected Immigration Office

On the day and time you have chosen, come to the immigration office of your choice with the documents that must be brought to make a passport. Also bring the barcode that you saved or printed earlier, then show it to the officer, who will scan it.
After that, wait until your queue number is called, and you will be asked to enter the interview room for the interview process and taking photos for your new passport.
So, so that you can take passport photos well, make sure you wear collared clothes and not white . This has become a rule, so instead of going back and forth to the immigration office just because you’re wearing the wrong clothes, you also need to note this.

Fees for Making a Passport and Collecting a Passport

After the passport process at the immigration office is complete, you will be given a note containing the fees and billing ID that you must pay. Now, you cannot make payments directly at the immigration office, but have to go through a bank, either a teller, ATM, e-banking, and also via e-commerce.
So, for the cost of making a passport, here are the details:
  • Ordinary passport 48 pages: Rp. 350,000
  • Ordinary 48 page electronic passport (e-passport): Rp. 650,000
  • Passport expedited service (completed on the same day): Rp. 1,000,000 (excluding passport fees)
What is passport expediting service? In short, it is a service that ensures that your passport application will take precedence in the queue so that it will be completed on the same day. This means that you come on the day, submit documents, interview, take photos and make payment, and in the afternoon your passport can be collected.
However, it seems that not all immigration offices provide passport expediting services, so you need to confirm again whether this service is available at the immigration office you are going to.
Meanwhile, for a regular passport, it usually takes four working days to one week before you can collect it.

What about lost or damaged passports?

If your old passport is lost or damaged, you will have to arrange a new passport again like everyone else. The difference is, you have to come directly to the Immigration Office (not register via the application), with a limited quota each day.
So, here are the conditions that you must fulfill if you want to get a new passport because your old passport was lost or damaged:
Requirements for making a new passport because the old passport is lost
  1. Loss letter from local police station
  2. Valid e-KTP
  3. Family card
  4. Pay the lost passport fee (fine) of Rp. 1,000,000 (excluding passport costs)
Requirements for making a new passport because the old passport is damaged
  1. E-KTP
  2. Family card
  3. Birth certificate, marriage certificate, or diploma
  4. For foreigners who obtain Indonesian citizenship: Indonesian citizenship letter
  5. For those who have changed their name: Name change determination letter
  6. Old passport
  7. Paying fees (fines) for damaged passports: Rp. 500,000 (excluding passport costs)
Apart from that, according to the official website of the Directorate General of Immigration of the Republic of Indonesia, Immigration will carry out an assessment that will determine the fate of your passport:
  • If it is found that there was an element of carelessness and the loss occurred due to things beyond our control, a replacement ordinary passport will be given
  • If an element of carelessness or negligence is found with unacceptable reasons, the granting of an ordinary passport can be suspended for a minimum of 6 (six) months up to a maximum of 2 (two) years.
