There are 73 visa-free countries or visa on arrival for Indonesian passports
The Indonesian passport is still far from being the most powerful passport in the world. In fact, Indonesia’s passport is still ranked 70th out of 199 countries with access to 73 countries visa-free or only requiring a Visa on Arrival or eTA (Electronic Travel Authority, a kind of e-Visa) in 2023 according to the Henley Passport Index .
This number is of course still very far from the 192 countries that can be accessed by a Singapore passport, which is ranked 1st!
Even so, the number of 73 visa-free countries that Indonesians can visit without a visa or only requiring a visa on arrival and eTA is still not small. So, if you want to travel abroad without having to worry about the hassle of visa applications, you can just plan a holiday to one of these 73 countries.
What is a Visa and Why Do We Need a Visa?
A visa is a permit document given by a territory or country to foreigners to enter that territory . In a visa, there is usually information about the validity period of the visa: the length of time the visa holder can stay in the territory, and when the visa holder must leave the territory.
Everyone who travels between countries needs a visa to enter the territory of a destination country. Generally, to get a visa, a person must apply to that country through the embassy of the destination country in the applicant’s country, or through an agent/third party representing the destination country.
However, thanks to close cooperation between countries and the trust given from one country to another, some countries provide visa freedom for a limited time for citizens of certain countries. For example, thanks to cooperation between countries in Southeast Asia gathered in the ASEAN organization, Indonesian citizens can travel visa-free to other ASEAN countries for a certain period of time.

Another question that is often asked about visas is: what is the difference between a passport and a visa? In accordance with the explanation in the previous section, a visa is a permission letter/document given by a country to citizens of another country to enter its territory.
Meanwhile, a passport is a person’s travel document given by their country as proof of the identity of an internationally recognized citizen.

Indonesia is currently successfully collaborating with 73 other countries to provide Indonesian passport holders with visa-free access or visa on arrival or e-Visa, whose application is easier than a regular visa application.
